Apple News+ is the paid tier of Apple News, described by Apple as "a world of journalism, one trusted subscription". It provides access to top stories from over 500 leading publications, spanning local, national and international titles. Expert editors surface articles in collections such as Top Stories and Spotlight, and stories are presented with photography, animation, video and immersive layouts. Issues can be downloaded for offline reading.

Subscribers can hear professionally narrated articles in the iPhone app or via the Apple News+ Narrated podcast. Apple News Today, hosted by Shumita Basu, runs weekday mornings and is available to everyone, alongside weekly journalist interviews on In Conversation. The subscription also includes original mini and full-size crossword puzzles, with new crosswords daily and an archive of past games. Sports coverage includes highlights, scores and schedules for professional and college teams, with access to The Athletic, Sports Illustrated and local newspapers.

Apple News+ costs $12.99 per month, and new subscribers get a free one-month trial. Buyers of an eligible new iPhone, iPad or Mac can get three months of Apple News+ free. The service is also included in the Apple One Premier plan, which bundles six Apple subscriptions and 2TB of iCloud+ storage for $39.95 per month. Apple states that an Apple News+ subscription can be shared with family, and Apple Pay can be used to subscribe.

As readers use the app, Apple News builds an understanding of their interests and suggests relevant stories. Apple states that recommendations use only on-device intelligence, that the app does not access information without permission, and that reading data is not shared with others or used to let advertisers track users.
