Every app is automatically screened for known malware, and apps must adhere to Apple's guidelines. Apple says nearly 500 dedicated experts around the world review over 130,000 apps each week, and that more than 1.9 million app submissions were rejected in 2024 for reasons including privacy violations and fraudulent activity. Apps cannot pull data from other apps, and users choose what data to share and with whom. Apple moderators also review worldwide App Store charts for inappropriate content and removed over 1.9 million user reviews considered spam in 2024.

Several Apple services connect to the App Store.
