Jetpack Contact Forms: WordPress Form Feature

Contact Forms arrived as the headline addition in Jetpack 1.3. Jetpack describes the feature as looking familiar to anyone who has used WordPress.com's Contact Forms or the Grunion Contact Form plugin. The result is a contact form that can be placed on whatever WordPress post or page the site owner chooses.

A form is created by clicking the contact form icon above the post editor, which opens a popup for building the form. Within that popup, fields can be added, edited and reordered, and field labels can be changed. The email address that receives responses, and the subject line used, can also be customised.

Each submission is emailed to the address configured for the form. In addition, all responses are listed in the Feedbacks section of the WordPress Admin, so they remain accessible within the site. Jetpack states that the form is Akismet anti-spam protected, assuming the Akismet plugin is installed.

The Jetpack 1.3 release that introduced Contact Forms also fixed a small number of bugs, improving YouTube embed handling and support for youtu.be URLs, and correctly loading Sharing admin styles across server and WordPress configurations. The update appears in the WordPress dashboard, and the latest version of Jetpack can also be downloaded directly. Jetpack directs users with questions to its support forum.

Jetpack lists contact forms among the year's notable updates alongside country data in stats, subscriptions, Jetpack comments and Carousel. The company also names contact forms as one of three major feature releases, with Jetpack comments and carousels, that saw large adoption and contributed to growth in plugin downloads. Jetpack reports that the plugin passed two million downloads from WordPress.org, having taken 13 months to reach its first million.
