M5 family performance
Apple describes the M5 series as its most advanced chips built for a pro laptop. Each chip in the family provides single- and multithreaded CPU performance with faster unified memory, and SSD storage that is up to twice as fast as before. The GPU features enhanced shader cores, a third-generation ray-tracing engine and Dynamic Caching, which optimises on-chip memory to increase GPU utilisation.
- Up to 6x faster than M1
- SSD storage up to twice as fast as before
- Third-generation ray-tracing engine
- Dynamic Caching for GPU utilisation
AI capabilities
A Neural Accelerator is built into each GPU core of the M5 family, speeding up tasks such as image generation from diffusion models, large language model prompt processing and on-device transformer model training. A 16-core Neural Engine drives Apple Intelligence features, with an emphasis on energy-efficient on-device processing. Apple states AI performance of up to 8x that of the M1 family.

- Up to 8x faster AI performance than the M1 family
- On-device LLM prompt processing
Display, audio and camera
The Liquid Retina XDR display delivers 1600 nits peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, rendering 4K video and HDR photos with deep blacks and bright highlights. A nano-texture display option reduces reflections. The 12MP Center Stage camera keeps the user in frame while moving, and Desk View shares the workspace. Audio comes from a studio-quality three-mic array and a six-speaker system supporting Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos.
