100-Year Domain by WordPress.com

The 100-Year Domain service lets an individual or organisation secure a domain name for a full century rather than the standard decade. WordPress.com presents it as a professionally managed registration covering four extensions, purchased for a one-time cost. It is aimed at people and organisations seeking long-term stability, and at protecting a name against expiration or administrative slip-ups. The domains pages also promote the option as a way to own a domain name for 100 years.

• Available extensions: .com, .net, .org, .blog
• One-time cost for 100 years of registration
• Domain held with the owner in control
• Positioned for family and institutional names

ICANN limits domain registration to a maximum of ten years at any given time. To achieve a longer term, the WordPress.com registration team holds the account in a Century Proxy account system, which extends the registration year after year for the next 1,200 months. The domain name is managed in a specialised long-term trust account, which WordPress.com describes as providing stability regardless of future industry changes. Setup is a one-time process.

• Century Proxy account system extends registration annually
• Registration extended across 1,200 months
• Specialised trust account for longevity
• One-time setup, no renewal steps for the owner

Each 100-Year Domain comes with the standard WordPress.com domain tooling. Free private domain registration is included with every domain purchase where supported, and every domain hosted on WordPress.com is covered by a free SSL certificate. WordPress.com also provides its DNS infrastructure and professional email from the WordPress.com dashboard, with a free three-month trial.

• Free domain privacy protection where supported
• Free SSL certificate
• Advanced DNS features
• Domain name security safeguards
• Professional email with a three-month free trial

The WordPress.com 100-Year Plan includes a 100-Year Domain as one of its digital assets. The plan is a one-time payment hosting package intended for cultural organisations, generational companies and creators seeking longevity of a digital presence. Alongside century-long domain registration, it covers enhanced ownership protocols for gifting or transferring a site, integration of public sites with the Internet Archive, a Wayback Machine link-fixing plugin, an optional locked mode, and managed WordPress hosting with unmetered bandwidth and geographically distributed backups. Each plan also includes a commemorative artifact with a unique edition number, etching elements of the site's code into glass and metal.

• Century-long domain registration bundled in the plan
• Enhanced ownership and transfer support
• Internet Archive integration and link-fixing plugin
• Optional locked mode for the site
• Managed WordPress hosting with multiple backups

Prospective owners search for an available legacy domain name on the 100-Year Domain page and proceed from there; the domains page links to the same option under "Choose your 100-Year Domain". Existing domain names can be transferred to WordPress.com, whether for an active site or simply to park the name. WordPress.com offers expert support by email or live chat for domain matters, and describes dedicated support for each step of the 100-year process.

• Domain search on the 100-Year Domain page
• Transfer of an existing domain name supported
• Email and live chat support from WordPress.com experts
